Finding a satisfying plant-based breakfast on the go used to be nearly impossible, but that’s quickly changing. Major fast food chains are expanding their morning menus to cater to vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians looking for meat-free, dairy-free options that don’t compromise on taste or convenience. To help you navigate the growing number of choices, we taste-tested five popular plant-based breakfast items from chains like Dunkin’, Starbucks, and Taco Bell. We evaluated each one based on flavor, convenience, and price—and we’ll also share how you can earn cashback with apps like Fluz on your next breakfast run.

First up is the Oatmeal with Dried Fruit and Nuts from Starbucks, one of the most accessible and budget-friendly vegan breakfasts available nationwide. It’s simple, warm, and surprisingly filling, especially when topped with the optional nut medley. At around $4, it’s priced fairly and pairs well with a hot or iced coffee using non-dairy milk options like oat, almond, or soy. Starbucks, a Fluz merchant, allows users to earn instant cashback by purchasing a gift card through the app and using it at checkout—an easy way to save on your daily caffeine fix.

Next, we tried the Avocado Toast from Dunkin’, which comes on sourdough bread and is topped with everything bagel seasoning. While it’s technically vegetarian and can be made vegan by requesting no butter or dairy-based spreads, the simplicity of the item works in its favor. It’s flavorful, portable, and usually under $4. Dunkin’ offers a rewards programfor frequent customers, and Fluz also supports Dunkin’ gift cards, letting you double up on savings with cashback while earning loyalty points on breakfast orders.

At Taco Bell, the menu isn’t known for being plant-based—but with a few customizations, it can work. We ordered the Hash Browns and a Bean Burrito “Fresco Style”, which removes cheese and replaces it with pico de gallo. While this isn’t technically on the breakfast menu, it’s available all day and makes for a great savory option in the morning. The price is unbeatable, with both items coming in under $4 combined. Taco Bell doesn’t offer as many ready-made vegan items, but its flexible menu and low prices make it a go-to for budget-conscious, plant-based eaters.

For a heartier breakfast, we tried the Plant-Based Breakfast Sandwich from Peet’s Coffee, made with Beyond Breakfast Sausage, JUST Egg, and vegan cheddar on a thin bun. It’s a fully vegan sandwich by default and delivers in both taste and texture. It’s a little pricier—around $6.50—but worth it for a satisfying hot breakfast that feels substantial. While Peet’s doesn’t appear on Fluz at the time of writing, it’s available in select delivery apps where cashback offers may be accessible through Ibotta or Rakuten.

Lastly, we tested Chipotle’s Sofritas Breakfast Bowl, which isn’t officially a breakfast item but works perfectly with ingredients like brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, and Sofritas tofu. Add guacamole and fresh salsa for a protein-packed start to your day. While you’ll spend closer to $8 to $10 depending on your location and customizations, the portion size justifies the price. Chipotle is a Fluz merchant, making it easy to earn cashback while loading up on fiber and plant-based protein first thing in the morning.

Overall, the plant-based breakfast scene is evolving fast. Starbucks and Peet’s lead the way for grab-and-go vegan options, while Taco Bell and Dunkin’ offer more budget-friendly plant-forward choices with some customization. Using cashback apps like Fluz can stretch your budget even further, especially when paired with loyalty programs from each chain. Whether you’re looking for something light, savory, or protein-packed, there’s a plant-based breakfast option out there that fits your routine—and your wallet.
